Pursuing criminology provides profound insights into criminal behavior, victim experiences, and how societies address crime. This expertise enhances and critically frames your study of legal systems that enforce criminal justice. You'll gain practical knowledge of legal applications, valuable whether you aim to practice criminal law or pursue criminal justice careers. At UWE Bristol, we recognize the fundamental connection between legal studies and criminology. Our program goes beyond legal statutes to examine their origins and purposes. You'll analyze legal systems, justice processes, and social impacts from multiple viewpoints while evaluating how institutions function and could be reformed.

The curriculum covers diverse topics including justice systems, criminal legislation, crime trends, law enforcement, media influences, juvenile justice, substance abuse, terrorism, major crimes, and punishment theories. You'll master criminological research techniques while developing essential legal competencies like courtroom advocacy and dispute resolution.
