Our methodology focuses on translation cultures and their diverse contexts. We explore how translation is conceptualized and applied across artistic, political, and social spheres through various media. Additionally, we employ translation as a cross-disciplinary analytical framework to examine migration patterns, displacement phenomena, cultural creation, knowledge transfer, language policies, and historical intellectual developments.
This program offers two specialized pathways: (i) a theoretical/research-oriented track and (ii) a practical application track. The theoretical track requires making a substantial, innovative scholarly contribution to Translation Studies.
The practice-based pathway emphasizes knowledge generation primarily through creative work—specifically through submitted translations—while also demanding scholarly engagement. Students must show critical understanding of translation challenges (including stylistic, cultural, sociological, and ideological dimensions) through an analytical commentary grounded in Translation and Transcultural Studies research.
Both components should maintain conceptual coherence. The practice route differs from conventional doctoral research by substantiating its original knowledge contribution largely through the translation work itself. The supporting commentary must exhibit doctoral-level contextual understanding, analytical rigor, and argumentative precision equivalent to traditional PhD standards.
