This cutting-edge MA program stands among the UK's pioneering courses specializing in global and comparative history, providing an opportunity to explore one of history's most vibrant fields of contemporary research and discussion. Our expert faculty deliver diverse modules, exposing students to multiple perspectives and methodologies.
During the initial term, students complete two foundational modules. Theory, Skills and Methods establishes essential historical techniques and conceptual frameworks for examining societies and cultures from early modernity to the present day. Themes in Global and Comparative History investigates this developing discipline, its methodologies, subject matter, and the critiques it has generated. Students continually examine connections between global, regional, and local scales within broader discussions about historical approaches and analysis. This foundation enables exploration of key world regions such as Latin America, India, and China.
The second term offers elective modules where students can investigate historical approaches to religious traditions, gender studies, scientific developments, imperial systems, consumer cultures, and medical humanities.
