An MA by Research in Ancient History allows you to pursue a personalized research project driven by your historical interests. This program lasts one year for full-time students or two years for part-time participants. It's ideal both as a capstone to previous coursework or as preparation for doctoral studies. You'll produce a 40,000-word thesis showcasing original scholarship that advances the field, followed by an oral defense. Research topics may explore any aspect of classical civilization - from Mycenaean Greece through the Roman Empire's decline. Faculty expertise encompasses ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman cultures as well as modern European history. With active research communities among both staff and students, Swansea offers a vibrant academic environment for historical study.
