Our research is driven by scientific inquiry and shaped by societal, economic, and industrial demands. We maintain robust connections with regional and national industries, particularly since real-world challenges often require cross-disciplinary solutions. As a research student, you'll join one or more specialized groups within the Informatics Department: Data Science, Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems (EASy), Foundations of Software Systems, or Creative Technology.
You can pursue either a PhD or MPhil degree. These programs vary in duration and the scope of research required.

A PhD requires your research to significantly advance knowledge in your field through original contributions.
An MPhil involves independent research with a narrower focus than a PhD, culminating in a Master of Philosophy degree. There may be opportunities to transition from an MPhil to a PhD during your studies.
