Cultural Studies examines everyday life through a critical lens, delving into the mundane aspects of our world. It explores cultural consumption, popular culture, multiculturalism, values, and the political dimensions of culture—whether radical or conservative—by analyzing how culture is experienced in daily life. At Sussex, you can pursue Cultural Studies through humanities-based textual analysis, social science empirical methods, or a blend of both. The Sussex Centre for Cultural Studies, the university's largest research hub, hosts workshops, conferences, and events featuring prominent guest speakers—all open to your participation. Our distinguished scholars employ groundbreaking methods and contemporary perspectives to study culture, power, and agency. Depending on your focus, projects may involve co-supervision with faculty from other departments.
