A Doctor of Philosophy degree is granted for original research that substantially advances understanding in a specific field, typically including publishable material. Thesis requirements: 70,000-100,000 words encompassing citations, references, and appendices (excluding documentary supplements). For practice-based doctorates, the written component may be shorter (minimum 40,000 words, as agreed with supervisors), accompanied by significant practical work.
