This course examines the intricate connections between development and security in the Global South.
Taking an interdisciplinary approach, we address issues of peace, vulnerability, and instability. You'll develop foundational knowledge of conflict, security, and development theories. The course covers:
how recurring patterns of instability and conflict impact development
challenges encountered by organizations operating in violent or unstable environments (such as during military interventions, humanitarian aid delivery, peacekeeping missions, or postwar recovery)
whether economic disparities in the Global South contribute to the global expansion of terrorist and criminal activities.
You'll learn from our innovative research, diverse international faculty, and unique event programming. Our department houses the Sussex Centre for Conflict and Security Research, the Centre for Advanced International Theory, and the Centre for Global Political Economy. Additionally, you'll benefit from our extensive network of alumni, collaborators, and partner institutions worldwide.
