Develop expertise to enter the vibrant realm of museums, galleries, and cultural heritage. You'll collaborate with academic professionals who maintain connections with UK museums and possess hands-on experience managing exhibitions and permanent collections within the sector.
Acquire essential museum experience by working alongside museum professionals and fellow curating students to tackle real-world challenges for specific institutions. From February through June, you'll engage with contemporary issues museums currently face. Past projects have addressed topics such as:
accessibility and disability inclusion
racial justice movements
LGBTQ+ heritage and provocative art
discussions surrounding artifact repatriation.
Partner institutions include:
Charleston
Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft
the British Museum
Towner Eastbourne.
Through coursework, you'll examine the historical, theoretical, and political dimensions of art institutions while developing a critical approach to curation. The program includes visits to Sussex and London museums, offering direct exposure to institutional narratives, collections, and both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
