Our BSc and MPhys programs provide a versatile selection of modules spanning diverse subjects, encompassing both theoretical and practical physics domains. Our instruction leverages the wide-ranging expertise of our distinguished faculty. Two distinctive features of these programs include: Our recognized Professional Training opportunities: The BSc includes an optional paid Professional Training placement in industry, offering valuable practical experience to boost career prospects. The MPhys features a year-long, masters-level integrated research placement, which can be undertaken within our renowned research teams or at partner institutions worldwide. Our emphasis on undergraduate research and innovation: All undergraduate students can apply for paid 8-10 week summer research positions within our research groups or those of our South East Physics Network collaborators. We provide internal grants for research, innovation, and enterprise, enabling students to fund research projects, attend conferences, or pursue entrepreneurial ventures.
In both the BSc and MPhys programs, you'll explore fundamental subjects like particle, nuclear, and atomic physics, alongside elective modules. The first year allows flexibility to transfer between most specialized physics courses. The integrated research year or Professional Training placement further enhances employability through hands-on experience. Classroom learning is supplemented by work in our state-of-the-art radiation laboratories, recently upgraded and expanded with a £2.7 million investment. Undergraduate students utilize these facilities for experiments tied to the Nuclear and Particle Physics module. You may choose between pursuing a BSc or MPhys degree—the latter provides a direct path to a masters qualification with an integrated research year, allowing skill development in academic or industrial settings before completing final masters-level coursework.
