Our BSc and MPhys programs provide a versatile selection of modules spanning diverse subjects, encompassing both theoretical and practical physics domains. The curriculum leverages the extensive knowledge of our distinguished faculty members. Two distinctive features of these degrees include: Our recognized Professional Training opportunities: The BSc program includes an optional paid Professional Training placement in industry, offering practical experience to boost career prospects. The MPhys features a year-long, masters-level integrated research placement, either within our renowned research teams or at collaborating global institutions. Our emphasis on undergraduate research and innovation: All students can pursue paid 8-10 week summer research positions in our laboratories or with South East Physics Network partners. We provide internal grants for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, supporting placements, conference attendance, or business ventures.
Both the BSc and MPhys cover fundamental subjects like particle, nuclear, and atomic physics, alongside elective modules. Students can transfer between most specialized physics programs during the first year. The integrated research year or Professional Training placement further enhances practical skills for career readiness. Classroom instruction is supplemented by hands-on work in our upgraded radiation laboratories, which underwent a £2.7 million expansion. Undergraduate students utilize these facilities for Nuclear and Particle Physics experiments. You may choose between the BSc or MPhys pathway, with the MPhys offering a direct masters route including a dedicated research year to refine skills in academic or industrial settings before completing final masters-level coursework.
