Research possibilities The School of Social Work & Social Policy provides MPhil and PhD programs in: Criminology Public health & health policy Social policy Social work For Social Policy, we provide guidance across all the School's primary research fields (listed below). Our expertise spans historical and modern topics, and we encourage inquiries from students focused on Scotland, the UK, and international contexts. Presently, we're guiding students researching diverse subjects, from volunteerism and community engagement in modern Scotland to evaluating how social policies affect Human Development in Sierra Leone. Our Social Work faculty also offers supervision across all research domains. Current projects examine support systems for disabled children and their families, different facets of criminal justice social work, and the experiences of children in care and care leavers. Numerous students collaborate with experts from the Centre for Excellence for Children's Care and Protection (CELCIS) and the Children and Young People's Centre for Justice (CYCJ). The Criminology PhD program combines knowledge from Social Work, Social Policy, and the School of Law. We supervise research on various themes, including youth justice, criminalization, sentencing, rehabilitation, prison healthcare, and prisoners' family and community ties. We maintain strong connections with the Children and Young People's Centre for Justice (CYCJ) and the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research (SCCJR). Additionally, the School oversees a specialized PhD program in Public Health and Health Policy, leveraging expertise from the Centre for Health Policy and other university departments. Current student projects explore diverse areas, such as how mental health challenges affect women in poverty and the connections between mental health, homelessness, and recovery.
Applicants are generally required to have a first-class or a strong upper second-class UK Honours degree, or overseas equivalent, in a relevant discipline 
IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no individual band less than 5.5)
TOEFL (ibt): 80 overall, with the following minimum scores in each component: Listening: 17 Reading: 18 Speaking: 20 Writing: 18.
