This program offers the chance to pursue in-depth political research within an interdisciplinary academic setting. You'll work alongside globally recognized experts in Politics and International Relations, benefiting from a vibrant and encouraging research community. Our scholarly work centers around several core themes:
security studies from critical perspectives,
peace, conflict and violence studies,
gender and sexuality research,
race, colonial studies, postcolonial and decolonial theory,
global knowledge systems (including expertise, ignorance and secrecy),
environmental politics and ecological political thought,
political economy studies,
social and political inequality,
the intersection of popular culture and (global) politics,
political and international relations theory,
the politics of socio-technical systems,
European studies and governance,
the politics and sociology of the Americas,
African political systems and regional dynamics,
South and East Asian political systems and regional affairs.
You'll become part of a diverse international student body investigating various aspects of politics and global relations. Our faculty possesses specialized knowledge across cultural and social theory, advocating for multiple research approaches. Each student receives guidance from two PhD supervisors whose academic expertise aligns with their research focus.
We dedicate ourselves to thorough conceptual and empirical research that addresses pressing political and social challenges. Our mission is to push boundaries in theory, knowledge and methodology within Politics and International Relations. We generate influential, globally-oriented research that responds to our interconnected world's evolving conditions.
