Our MPhil/PhD program in Counseling provides practicing counselors and psychotherapists with the chance to enhance their research expertise by undertaking a significant practice-based study focused on counseling processes or outcomes. We focus particularly on person-centered experiential therapy and operate a dedicated research clinic, offering access to our extensive data archive or opportunities for new data collection. Students can pursue a one-year MPhil or a three-year PhD in Counseling, with flexible part-time study options available. Research focuses include: advancing person-centered experiential therapy theory through empirical studies, examining counseling outcomes across various variables and methodologies, analyzing counseling processes using diverse approaches (including systematic case studies), and developing assessment tools (such as the Strathclyde Inventory and Therapeutic Relationship Scale).
