This represents a possible field for research degrees, pending University approval. Prospective students interested in pursuing research in this discipline should consult with the Dean to review their proposed study.
The Division of Mental Health Nursing & Counselling maintains dynamic research initiatives (MSc, MPhil, PhD) specializing in mental health nursing practice, emphasizing practitioner development, education, clinical applications, and pluralistic counseling approaches. Our researchers work collaboratively with academic peers throughout the University.
Through our collaboration with the Scottish Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals Research Unit, the Division offers a successful MSc by Research program tailored for mental health nursing professionals.
The Division also houses the Tayside Centre for Counselling - a clinical facility that facilitates research degrees exploring topics like adapting to disabilities or chronic illnesses, evaluating counseling methods, and advancing the Pluralistic Framework for integrated Counseling and Psychotherapy approaches.
This clinic maintains partnerships with several UK-based institutions that share similar research objectives.
Our research programs equip graduates for fulfilling academic and research careers while also creating pathways to various professional opportunities beyond academia.
MPhil typically requires 2 years of full-time study
