The MPhys program delves deeper into physics compared to the BSc Honours degree, catering to students aiming for professional careers in the field. The curriculum is specifically structured to equip future physicists with essential skills. During the later stages, students take specialized modules that prepare them for research roles in both industrial and academic settings. In the third year, alongside core physics subjects, learners can select advanced courses in mathematical physics, computational physics, experimental physics, or science communication. The fourth year offers optional modules covering various topics like theoretical physics, plasma physics, atomic and molecular physics, quantum optics, or photonics, with further specialization available in the fifth year. Laboratory sessions play a crucial role, fostering practical knowledge of experimental techniques and instrumentation. The program culminates with a research project conducted in modern facilities affiliated with departmental research groups, providing exposure to a dynamic academic environment. Throughout the MPhys degree, students can customize their studies in the final two years by focusing on specific subject areas through targeted module selection and extended research projects.
