The identification of the Higgs Boson and ongoing investigations into Physics beyond the Standard Model at CERN's Large Hadron Collider keep particle physics at the forefront of scientific relevance.
Our four-year Physics with Particle Physics MSci program includes all components of our standard Physics curriculum (F303/F300), while placing particular focus on the fundamental principles of particle physics, high-energy detectors, and accelerator technology. Your capstone project will allow you to explore research techniques in particle physics in depth, potentially paving the way for advanced postgraduate studies. This program includes an educational visit to CERN.
We deliver Physics education through an engaging yet rigorous approach, combining small-group tutorials, problem-solving sessions, lectures, lab work, computational tasks, collaborative projects, and personalized laboratory instruction - ensuring comprehensive academic support.
As a research-driven department, our teaching reflects cutting-edge scientific developments. Our state-of-the-art facilities support groundbreaking work in Dark Matter detection, next-generation particle accelerator development, and explorations in nanophysics, quantum technologies, extreme low-temperature environments, superconductivity, novel materials, and other pioneering fields. Final-year students have the opportunity to work in these research laboratories.
