Physics explores the fundamental workings of our universe, spanning from subatomic particles to vast cosmic structures. This field encompasses quantum mechanics, relativity, particle physics, and serves as the foundation for technological advancements like computers and lasers. Our MSci program is designed for aspiring researchers who want to push the boundaries of physics knowledge and contribute to future scientific breakthroughs. Queen's Physics department achieved third place nationally for research intensity in the UK's latest Research Excellence Framework (REF), as reported by Times Higher Education.
The program actively promotes internship opportunities with regional employers, offering both year-long placements during studies and shorter summer positions. A mandatory Stage 2 training module prepares students for placement years. Leading companies like Seagate and General Electric frequently recruit our physics students for these positions. Many MSci research projects involve partnerships with external organizations, ranging from local businesses and healthcare providers to international research facilities.
