As part of our Institute of Education, you'll benefit from cutting-edge classroom research and evidence-based teaching methods. The program combines hands-on school experience with innovative English teaching approaches, incorporating media like newspapers, films, and advertisements. Drama enthusiasts can participate in New Vic Theatre workshops and Shakespeare-themed activities.
Your dedicated tutor will guide you from orientation through your first lessons, supported by our network of school-based mentors. Beyond classroom teaching, you'll engage students through our poetry and visual arts initiative, culminating in a published anthology of student work.
This intensive year-long program (September-July) features school placements, university seminars, and 20 specialized ITaP training days to strengthen core teaching skills. You'll complete 120+ days in secondary schools (plus primary school observation), gradually building your teaching responsibilities.
Career Prospects
Earn both PGCE and QTS certification, qualifying you to teach English nationwide. Many graduates secure teaching positions during the program, often within our partner schools. The PGCE also provides credits toward our accelerated Masters in Education, which you can complete during your second teaching year.
