Working alongside Secondary Lead School partners, the University of Chester provides a Geography specialization (ages 11-16 with sixth form extension) that leads to a PGCE with QTS qualification. A career in teaching brings both immense satisfaction and significant challenges. Our program equips you with the essential knowledge, skills, and understanding to become an exceptional educator. We strive to cultivate teachers who are deeply committed to advancing both their students' and their own professional growth.
This program supports, motivates, and enhances the skills of aspiring Secondary Geography teachers. Key focus areas help shape reflective, professional educators who are prepared to actively participate in and lead school-based learning experiences for children and adolescents. Trainees will develop:
engaging and inspirational confidence and enthusiasm.
knowledge of best practices and an expanding toolkit of effective teaching strategies.
an appreciation for and dedication to collaborative learning approaches.
awareness of assessment's critical role in successful learning, along with diverse techniques to motivate students.
clear understanding of Geography's current curriculum relevance and importance for young learners.
versatile teaching abilities adaptable to different educational environments.
Students from countries outside the UK are expected to have entry qualifications roughly equivalent to British Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) for postgraduate study. We accept a wide range of qualifications and consider all applications individually on merit. We may also consider appropriate work experience.
