Our Primary Early Years PGCE program immerses you in play-based learning approaches while preparing you to teach across all primary levels. You'll examine interactive teaching methods while gaining expertise in both Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1-2. The program combines campus-based training in primary education fundamentals with 10 specialized days focusing on early childhood development. Your practical experience includes 120 days across two school placements, with options to focus on Reception and Year 1 classes. You'll develop lesson planning skills, classroom management strategies, and insights into child development, supported by our team of former primary teachers who provide personalized mentoring. Beyond teacher certification, you'll join our Institute of Education community with access to cutting-edge classroom research and evidence-based teaching methods.
You'll benefit from our staff's extensive early years knowledge, including specialists from Woodlands Day Nursery and Forest School.
Practical experience
We carefully align your school placements with your professional growth goals through our strong relationships with partner institutions.
Our network includes over 50 early years providers and schools across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Cheshire East, and neighboring regions like Birmingham, Shropshire, and Manchester. These range from city schools to countryside educational settings.
Career prospects
Graduating with PGCE and QTS qualifies you to teach in any English primary school. The majority of our students secure teaching positions shortly after qualifying, often within our partner schools.
The program also provides academic credits that can be applied toward our Master's in Education degree.
