Created in collaboration with schools and early education providers, our Primary teacher education courses will help you grow into a creative and motivational educator. Our intensive programs run for around 40 weeks, with roughly two-thirds of that time spent in school environments. The teacher training experience maintains a vibrant connection between university instruction and practical school placements. As a Bath Spa educator-in-training, you'll investigate teaching methodologies and diverse learning approaches. We focus particularly on how families, schools, and communities influence children's education and development. Upon finishing your Initial Teacher Education, you'll be fully certified to teach, equipped with crucial knowledge, abilities, and self-assurance for classroom success. PGCE Primary and Early Years (ages 7-11) specialization choices include: English, Science, Mathematics, Special Educational Needs, Learning Behavior, Creative Arts, Foreign Languages
Program elements
Campus-based learning
We'll prompt you to analyze educational research, national policies, and teaching methods critically, while guiding you through reflective assessment processes. Instruction occurs through lectures, seminars, and workshops addressing all primary curriculum subjects.
School placements
You'll gain experience in at least two educational settings to understand different institutional values and approaches. Working alongside a school mentor, you'll refine your teaching techniques through hands-on practice and thoughtful analysis. These placements let you apply your university learning in real classroom situations while considering how children learn best.
Career prospects
This PGCE course develops exceptional educators prepared with the appropriate competencies, insights, and practical experience to begin successful teaching careers.
