This course covers the period from the late 1700s through the early 1800s to modern times. You'll examine global connections and dramatic transformations across different scales, from local histories to international diplomacy, and from artistic movements to armed conflicts.
The curriculum addresses fundamental themes such as national identity, colonial expansion, industrialization, and worldwide integration, frequently illustrated through pivotal examples: Germany's dual unification processes, Russia's diminishing influence, and China's growing prominence.We've structured the program to allow you to focus on subjects that particularly engage you. By employing investigative techniques and original materials, you'll craft unique historical accounts based on objects and records from the studied era.These abilities will also inform your thesis project, where you'll address a specific research problem. Past student projects have covered diverse subjects ranging from left-wing political groups in pre-war Europe to the Vietnam conflict and Ukrainian national identity.You can also select a specialized track in Intelligence Studies, Modern China, or Russian Affairs. Choosing a specialization will be reflected in your final degree title.
