Our BA (Hons) in English Literature and Creative Writing merges literary analysis with writing practice. You'll enjoy the freedom to focus on your preferred writing style, with most modules offering either critical or creative assessment options.
Workshops will explore diverse literary forms, periods, and schools of thought – spanning from Shakespearean drama to contemporary magical realism. You'll examine how authors have redefined worldviews and revolutionized our understanding of literature and humanity. The curriculum also addresses modern concerns including cultural diversity, environmental crises, and the Anthropocene era, with specialized modules covering children's literature and post-colonial narratives. Aspiring educators will gain classroom-relevant knowledge, while future writers can develop professional portfolios and industry connections. Our Writing for Publication module offers hands-on experience with the editorial journey from manuscript to print. Instruction occurs in interactive workshops where tutors demonstrate techniques before you practice them. Creative sessions might involve story treatments, character development, or revision exercises, while literary analysis combines brief lectures with immediate textual application.
