The PhD program, available in Psychology or Neuroscience, is a research-focused degree typically completed in 3 years (or 6 years part-time). Students work under the guidance of one or more faculty members from the School, culminating in an 80,000-word thesis and an oral defense (viva). The School of Psychology and Neuroscience provides both PhD and MSc research programs. Studies in these fields generally align with four primary themes: cellular and developmental neuroscience, origins of mind, perception/cognition/action, and social/group processes.
Research teams investigate intergroup dynamics, moral psychology, emotional responses, personality traits, and inhibitory mechanisms in social cognition and memory. Their work employs diverse methods, including experimental approaches with human subjects, conducted both domestically and internationally (e.g., in India). This research contributes valuable insights into social behavior and clinical conditions like depression.
