The MA (Hons) in Film Studies is a four-year program offered by the Department of Film Studies. During the initial two years, students explore fundamental concepts, theories, and methodologies in Film Studies, along with various approaches to analyzing cinema and visual media historically. This prepares them for more advanced, specialized Honors-level coursework. The curriculum focuses on Comparative Literature and Film Studies at an intensive, research-oriented level, helping students grasp how academic knowledge evolves. The program fosters independent learning characterized by curiosity, precision, and scholarly discipline. Spanning 48 months, it culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews degrees, it comprises credit-based modules requiring 480 total credits (typically 120 per year). The first two years combine core program requirements with elective options (sometimes including cross-disciplinary courses), while later years emphasize advanced, research-driven specialization.
