The MA (Hons) in Art History equips students to critically evaluate diverse artworks while developing strong visual and verbal communication skills. While emphasizing painting, sculpture, and architecture, the program also covers applied arts, graphic design, performance art, and photography. Throughout the degree, students learn to examine artistic works through multiple lenses - analyzing style, content, meaning, and aesthetic principles while applying various critical frameworks to uncover both overt and subtle artistic intentions. This four-year program, offered by the School of Art History, combines interdisciplinary approaches including economic, social, political, literary, philosophical, and psychological perspectives to art analysis. The first year curriculum focuses on two key areas: European and global medieval/Renaissance art, with special attention to historical contexts of creation, and 17th-18th century European art and architecture, exploring technological innovations, expanding viewership, and colonial influences.
