The MA (Hons) in Art History equips students to critically evaluate diverse artworks while developing strong visual and verbal communication skills. This program primarily examines painting, sculpture, and architecture while also covering applied arts, graphic design, performance art, and photography. Throughout the degree, students master techniques for analyzing artistic style, content, meaning, and theoretical foundations while employing various critical perspectives to uncover both overt and subtle concepts in artworks. This four-year program, offered by the School of Art History, integrates elements from economic, social, and political history alongside literature, philosophy, and psychology to provide comprehensive frameworks for art analysis. The first year curriculum focuses on two key areas: European and global medieval/Renaissance art, emphasizing the socio-political and religious contexts of artistic production, and 17th-18th century European art and architecture, exploring technological innovations, expanding viewership, and colonial influences.
