Geology examines the composition and history of Earth. The Geology BSc program at StAndrews investigates our planet's formation and development through geological evidence, applying principles from chemistry, physics, and biology to analyze the forces that have shaped Earth's systems. Through research-focused instruction, students explore contemporary scientific inquiries including Earth's uniqueness in our solar system, planetary and atmospheric formation, volcanic activity, and the beginnings of life. The curriculum covers how Earth's resources will power the shift to sustainable energy and methods for resource identification. Practical training equips students with expertise sought by energy, mining, and environmental sectors, while research opportunities enable original fieldwork and lab investigations.
