The School of Law enjoys widespread recognition at local, national, and global levels for its rigorous and influential research in legal studies, socio-legal analysis, and criminology. Our scholarly work is organized around three key research hubs: The Centre for Criminological Research (CCR), the Sheffield Institute for Corporate and Commercial Law (SICCL), and the Sheffield Centre for International and European Law (SCIEL). Faculty members within these centers conduct diverse research projects employing both traditional legal methodologies and cutting-edge empirical approaches, incorporating various qualitative and quantitative techniques. Each research center maintains a dedicated postgraduate representative who facilitates connections between the centers and the broader postgraduate research community. Our faculty consistently produces high-quality academic publications and reports while actively engaging in scholarly events at institutional, local, national, and international levels. This research not only enhances our teaching curriculum but also reaches practitioners, policymakers, and the general public through accessible formats, creating meaningful societal impact beyond academia. We have established expertise in shaping policy through our research collaborations and advisory roles with government entities, public organizations, and international institutions. The School fosters a dynamic postgraduate research community that actively participates in the intellectual life of the institution through year-round activities. These include specialized training sessions (as part of our discipline-specific professional development), works-in-progress presentations, public seminars, conferences organized by our research centers, school-wide research colloquia, and student-led initiatives such as academic conferences, writing retreats, and discussion groups – all strongly supported by the School.
