Sheffield has a distinguished tradition in political philosophy. Our scholars in this discipline maintain strong collaborations with leading institutions such as Stanford's Center for Ethics and Society, Harvard Kennedy School's Ash and Safra Centers, Tufts University's Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life, and MIT's Philosophy Department. The department frequently hosts visiting political philosophers, including recent guests Robert Talisse from Vanderbilt University and Mara-Daria Cojocaru from the Munich Institute of Philosophy. Our researchers have secured significant funding for impactful projects, including Jenny Saul, Jules Holroyd, Robin Scaife, and Tom Stafford's Cabinet Office-funded initiative examining workplace culture to enhance diversity in government security roles. Joshua Forstenzer and Vachararutai Boontinand received a Newton Fund Fellowship to explore philosophy-based teaching methods for developing critical thinking and democratic values in Thai universities. Additionally, our implicit bias training expertise has led to advisory work with the UK Civil Service, while our research on political education theories has informed policy discussions with European Parliament members.
