This research program encompasses multiple interconnected studies supported by diverse funding sources such as the MRC, NIHR, pharmaceutical firms, and charitable organizations. Over the past twenty years, economic assessments have grown significantly in guiding healthcare resource distribution globally (for instance, through NICE). A fundamental challenge in economic evaluation involves how healthcare benefits are quantified and assessed. A prevalent approach has been cost-effectiveness analysis employing Quality Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) to measure effectiveness in standardized units applicable across various healthcare treatments. Standard techniques for determining the 'quality' component in QALYs involve generic health valuation tools like the EQ-5D, SF-6D, HUI2, and HUI3. Health authorities, including NICE, routinely use these generic instruments to inform their cost-effectiveness models for medical interventions.
