Our BDS Dental Surgery program provides early opportunities for practical training through hands-on experience. You'll work in our advanced simulation lab, practicing dentistry with virtual reality technology and using phantom heads in our clinical skills training facility.
During the initial two years, you'll study the human body holistically while gaining foundational knowledge in oral healthcare across all age groups. Starting in year three, you'll develop skills in recognizing systemic disease symptoms and expand your clinical capabilities.

Clinical rotations and practical experience
As your expertise grows, you'll complete rotations outside the Dental School. Opportunities include treating patients at our Dental Practice Unit, working at regional hospitals, or pursuing specialized electives in your chosen dental field.

Your clinical training will occur in NHS hospitals, requiring compliance with all NHS protocols, including dress code standards (such as the 'bare below the elbow' rule) and professional conduct guidelines.
