Dental therapists are becoming more vital in providing primary dental care services. This program offers a unique and forward-thinking structure by combining elements from both the BDS Dentistry and BSc (Hons) Clinical Dental Technology curricula. Clinical practice takes center stage, with students beginning their training at Preston's state-of-the-art Dental School to master clinical techniques, acquire foundational knowledge, and learn about human health and disease. Communication skills development includes working with professional actors. During the latter part of Year 1, students transition to one of four primary care Dental Education Centres (DECs) - specialized training facilities where they'll provide supervised patient care while gaining practical experience in community settings they may later serve. These community-based DECs feature modern dental suites and dedicated learning spaces designed specifically for student education. Throughout Years 2 and 3, students continue their clinical training at DECs, applying their knowledge through direct patient care. The final year includes additional clinical rotations at an Enhanced Training Practice.
