Our Department offers three distinct PhD pathways: the PhD in Applied Linguistics, the PhD in Applied Linguistics (Taught-Track & Thesis), and the PhD in Comparative and Intercultural Studies. These programs typically span 3-4 years full-time or 5-6 years part-time.
In the initial year, all students must complete two Applied Linguistics modules and one research-focused module on campus, alongside ongoing supervisory meetings about their specialized research area.
Those enrolled in the taught-track program additionally complete three more research modules with formal assessments.
PhD in Applied Linguistics - Standard Route - This program best suits candidates with prior research experience.
PhD in Applied Linguistics - Taught-Track Option - Designed for students with minimal research background, this pathway culminates in a 20,000-word first-year dissertation that serves as the foundation for the final thesis.
