Constructing an understanding of history from available evidence—be it ancient texts, sculptures, or archaeological findings—relies on interpretive methods. Our Department emphasizes the evolution of academic approaches, principles of interpretation, how historical cultures have been passed down and perceived through time, and conscious examination of how various disciplines approach texts, visual artifacts, and archaeology. Through this work, we advance a crucial dimension of historical research.
