While most of your time will be dedicated to independent research, you'll also participate in the vibrant academic community of the Department.
During your first year, you'll complete research training alongside peers and faculty, gaining essential understanding of academic research while developing both broad and specialized research capabilities. You may choose to attend select Masters-level courses to further expand your expertise. This personalized training plan is developed in collaboration with your supervisor(s).
Across all three years, you'll interact with fellow researchers through departmental seminars, research group activities, specialized training sessions, conferences, and collaborative initiatives with national and international partners.
You'll benefit from exceptional research resources. Our facilities include specialized labs for psycholinguistics (featuring eye-tracking systems, head turn apparatus, e-prime, and Matlab) and forensic speech analysis (providing real case materials, speech recognition software, and analysis tools). We've also recently added a professional-grade recording studio. All postgraduate students in Language and Linguistic Science can utilize the Humanities Research Centre's resources.
Your research development is supported through regular supervisor meetings, biannual thesis advisory panel reviews, and annual progress evaluations with an independent assessment committee.
