This course provides the skills and practical exposure necessary for working with captive animals across diverse environments, extending beyond traditional zoos and aquariums. Alumni pursue roles in wildlife preservation, animal care, and breeding as scientists, managers, and specialists, along with opportunities in public awareness, teaching, and policy development. The program also prepares you for advanced academic pursuits, with numerous graduates progressing to doctoral studies or careers in higher education. Additional employment avenues include positions with the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, and various conservation groups operating at national and international levels.

Experience exclusive zoo access and professional insights through our collaborative program with Paignton Zoo, a member of Wild Planet Trust. Instruction typically involves two weekly days spent at Paignton or visiting regional zoos, aquariums, and conservation facilities.

Qualification Requirements

A 2:1 or equivalent preferably in a biology, science, marine or animal related subject. We will consider a 2:2 or equivalent or other relevant awards. If you dont have any recent formal qualifications, we may accept workplace experience.
Applicants with overseas qualifications can check their comparability with the UK equivalent through Ecctis, which provides an advisory service.
If your first language is not English then evidence of English proficiency is required. The level of proficiency that is required can vary with the type of programme for which you are applying.
The minimum IELTS score for acceptable English proficiency for entry is normally 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each element).
