Grasping the significance of plant diversity and resources is increasingly crucial today. Amidst growing concerns about climate change and ecosystem decline, successful environmental monitoring and protection rely on in-depth understanding of plant species and their environments. Studying plant diversity further enables us to harness these remarkable organisms for building a greener tomorrow.
This collaborative program is offered by the University alongside the prestigious Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE). The RBGE boasts one of the planet's finest living plant collections (15,000 species across four locations, representing 5% of known global species), a herbarium containing 3 million preserved samples, and among the world's most extensive botanical libraries. These exceptional resources, combined with RBGE's cutting-edge research, create an unmatched master's program in plant biodiversity.
Program alumni may advance to doctoral research or embark on careers across diverse biological fields including:
plant science
classification systems
environmental studies
