For thousands of years, biblical scriptures have remained central to social concerns, theological thought, and academic discourse. Their enduring influence shapes contemporary legislation, cultural perspectives, political systems, creative expressions, scientific understanding, and global religious traditions.
At Nottingham University, we employ a multidisciplinary methodology in Biblical Studies, integrating detailed textual analysis with perspectives from Near Eastern and Mediterranean antiquity, archaeological findings, gender and feminist research, classical studies, manuscript analysis, philosophical inquiry, and artistic interpretation. This approach helps us examine how ancient Jewish and Christian writings were understood by their initial readers, trace their evolution, and assess their lasting impact on subsequent belief systems and cultural developments.
