Our PGCE programs combine campus-based instruction - providing foundational knowledge of effective teaching methods - with practical school placements, allowing you to implement your learning across diverse classroom environments. These placements occur in different types of schools (urban, suburban, or rural; independent or state-funded) to ensure varied experience. You'll learn from distinguished academics with extensive teaching backgrounds. Our approach integrates research from the School of Education and beyond with hands-on teaching practice, creating optimal conditions for developing skilled, thoughtful educators.
Geography, History, and Religious Education trainees study together as a Humanities PGCE cohort. While receiving specialized instruction in your chosen subject, you'll also explore interdisciplinary teaching approaches within Humanities. Both teaching placements focus on your specialization. Religious Education currently navigates significant challenges in the education landscape, yet remains a dynamic discipline that fosters children's ability to build harmonious, empathetic communities.
