The School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science offers an MA by Research (MAR) program that enables students to conduct independent research at the Masters level. This program serves as an excellent foundation for those considering PhD studies. At Leeds, Theology and Religious Studies thrives as a dynamic research community exploring the meaning and impact of religious thought and practice in modern society. Our faculty of approximately fourteen scholars specializes in diverse traditions including Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Sikhism, with particular focus on religious influences in Britain, Africa, and South-East Asia. Our research employs multiple methodological approaches - from anthropology and sociology to theology, biblical studies, philosophy of religion, and ethics - investigating religion's connections to contemporary issues like gender, sexuality, race, migration, environmental concerns, media, and public health.
