Our globally recognized plant and crop science research focuses on key crops like wheat, rice, barley, potato, and tomato, along with lesser-studied crops such as bambara.

Our diverse international team of researchers spans multiple disciplines, exploring everything from molecular processes in plant cells to field performance of crops.

We examine how plants interact with their environment and other organisms, including both harmful pathogens and beneficial microbes. This understanding helps us enhance crop quality and agricultural productivity.
We conduct in-depth basic research on plant growth mechanisms using model species like Arabidopsis.

Studies with model plants reveal genetic networks controlling crucial agricultural characteristics, including seed development, plant structure, stress responses, and fruit maturation. We translate these fundamental discoveries to improve various crops important both in the UK and globally.
