Sustainable farming combines plant, animal, and environmental studies from throughout the School.
Our primary goal is to advance farming methods, boost sustainability and productivity, while safeguarding ecosystems. We focus on analyzing challenges related to food production, energy sources, land utilization, and water resources, and how these influence agricultural business plans, risk mitigation, consumer choices, and agrifood economics.

We pioneer research into the productivity, efficiency, and challenges of agricultural systems in the UK and EU, directing data gathering and evaluation for the Defra Farm Business Survey (FBS). We extend this knowledge worldwide through research initiatives across Europe, Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Central and South America.
