This intensive four-year course is tailored for graduates prepared to launch their medical careers.The foundational phaseDuring the initial 18 months at Royal Derby Hospital, you'll establish the professional and scientific bedrock of medical knowledge. Our innovative problem-based learning approach at our state-of-the-art medical school lets you explore clinical scenarios through small group discussions. You'll collaboratively investigate patient cases, conduct research, evaluate evidence, and formulate diagnostic and treatment strategies. This method cultivates clinical reasoning abilities, reveals interdisciplinary connections, hones clinical techniques, and enhances both collaborative and independent learning. Starting from year one, classroom instruction is enriched by hands-on patient experiences in both primary care and hospital environments.You'll be guided by internationally recognized researchers and practitioners while enjoying the vibrant community of our Derby medical school and its student-run medical society, Derby MedSoc. Participate in their year-round activities, including theatrical productions, and access valuable peer support systems like mentoring programs.The clinical phaseThis immersive stage involves rotations through various hospital departments and general practices. You'll gain exposure to multiple specialties and diverse healthcare environments, developing comprehensive insight into NHS operations and patient care. Upon completion, you'll earn a BMBS degree, qualifying you for the UK Foundation Programme. Our rigorous curriculum offers exceptional preparation for your future medical practice.Professional prospectsAfter earning your BMBS degree, you'll typically qualify for provisional registration with the General Medical Council (GMC). We'll guide you through this process and support your transition to the UK Foundation Programme.
