Our programs combine academic theory with practical application. You'll learn from leading researchers while gaining hands-on experience with animals like guinea pigs, sheep, hens, and cows through lab sessions and field excursions.
Four specialized pathways are available:
Bioveterinary Science - explore the scientific principles of animal health and illness
Physiology and Biotechnology - investigate animal anatomy and biological processes, including stem cell research
Livestock Production - analyze farm animal nutrition, productivity, and reproduction science
Ecology and Conservation - specialize in zoo animal science, management, and welfare
You'll have until the end of your first year to select your specialization. Regardless of your choice, you can take modules from other pathways and broader bioscience subjects like microbiology, nutrition, and agriculture.
Your studies will be based at Sutton Bonington Campus, which houses our working University Farm and Dairy Center. These commercial facilities support both research and teaching, with farm staff actively involved in instruction.
Boost your career prospects by adding a year abroad, an industry placement, or computer science studies to your degree.
