This program covers evolution, genetics, and animal behavior, extending to biodiversity conservation and climate change challenges. You'll explore microorganisms, invertebrates, birds, fish, mammals, and human biology while applying your learning through hands-on laboratory and fieldwork.
Examine animal life and biodiversity at all levels, both in controlled lab environments and natural settings, as you master animal physiology, conservation strategies, and evolutionary processes.

Sheffield's research-intensive zoology program offers comprehensive study of biodiversity, conservation efforts, animal behavior patterns, genetic mechanisms, physiological systems, and climate change effects.

Starting in your first year, you'll engage with core zoology subjects while having flexibility to select complementary bioscience electives. The curriculum spans genetic studies, microbial life, evolutionary theory, and biochemical processes.

At Sheffield, we foster innovative thinking, independent research skills, and confident idea expression. You'll conduct detailed laboratory experiments and examine anatomical specimens in our Alfred Denny Museum. Optional field research opportunities include the Peak District National Park or international field courses.

Throughout your studies, you can focus on specialized areas like conservation biology, evolutionary studies, genetic research, or ecological modeling. Field course selections will enhance your capacity to address global environmental issues, allowing you to contribute meaningfully even during your academic journey.
