Our PhD/MPhil Structural Biology program offers you the opportunity to conduct research that advances knowledge in Structural Biology. This dynamic field focuses on uncovering the 3D structures of crucial biological macromolecules like proteins, DNA, RNA, and their complexes (such as ribosomes and nucleosomes). Emerging alongside molecular biology in the mid-20th century, structural biology boasts famous pioneers including Hodgkin, Wilkins, Watson, and Crick for their DNA structure discovery. The protein structure pioneers, Nobel laureates Kendrew and Perutz, receive less recognition. With modern computational tools and cutting-edge equipment, researchers now routinely obtain high-resolution structures through X-ray diffraction and cryo-electron microscopy, enabling faster and more accurate analysis of both large complexes and individual proteins.
