Our PhD/MPhil Medical Microbiology program allows you to conduct a research study aimed at advancing knowledge in Medical Microbiology. As a postgraduate researcher in this field, you'll join the Microbiology, Biofilm and Microbiome Research Group. While research topics can be somewhat flexible, typical projects focus on investigating one or more of these areas: microbial virulence and infection processes in vitro modeling of probiotics antimicrobial resistance patterns human microbiome studies bacterial interactions with eukaryotic cell systems. Alongside gaining hands-on experience with applied microbiological methods, we collaborate with university partners and external organizations when suitable to provide training in advanced techniques such as confocal microscopy, metabolomics, next-generation sequencing, transcriptomics, and proteomics.
