Research in the School of Biosciences focuses on investigating biological systems and cellular mechanisms. Our work maintains a strong molecular emphasis, featuring cutting-edge initiatives that complement each other and enhance our educational programs.
Specialized knowledge in areas like biochemistry, microbiology, and biomedical science enables us to leverage technology and pioneer innovations in genetics, molecular biology, protein studies, biophysics, and computational biology. Our investigations span diverse molecular phenomena, from cellular division and gene expression to molecular machinery, diagnostic techniques, and the development of biotherapeutics and sustainable energy solutions.
Our research programs center on both laboratory experiments and computational studies. Full-time PhD candidates complete intensive 3-4 year projects, while part-time students undertake 5-6 year programs. From the outset, all research students concentrate on a specific project while selectively participating in transferable skills training. Each student receives guidance from a dedicated supervisory team, including primary advisors and independent chairs who monitor academic progress.
